About the Artist: Walala was born in the Gibson Desert and with his family made history in 1984 when they arrived in Kiwirrkurra and contact with Europeans for the first time. The group had been following a traditional lifestyle till then. They had to come in because there were no eligible wives for the three brothers, Warlimpirringa, Walala and Thomas. Walala paints the Tingari Cycle, which is a series of sacred and secret songlines. These Tingari are associated with his Dreaming sites at Marua, Mintarnpi, Minna Minna, Naami, Lake MacKay and Yarrawangu, which are all in the Gibson Desert of Western Australia.
